STM Jacket (Travel Bag/Case) for iPad Review

The STM Jacket for the iPad is made out of water resistant 600D nylon. The exterior looks really good with a nice chocolate brown finish on my STM Jacket. The front of the Jacket has a little pouch where you can store your iPhone or any iPod, this pouch is dubbed as the ‘Unique Slider’. The pouch allows your device to go in at an angle but does not have a zipper which was a huge concern for me because I was worried it would fall out. This isn’t the case however, I tried to really shake the case with my iPhone in to get the sucker out but it just wouldn’t budge. This must be due to the iPhone going in at an angle and the top of the pouch having a flap which catches it.

Underneath the layer of the pouch we are greeted with a another bigger one which has a zipper this time. This is designed for cables and earbuds but is big enough for a small book or documents but there is another part of the STM Jacket designed for that. On the right hand side of the Jacket we see a handle for carrying it and around the back we have a huge open compartment which is designed for paper work ect to go into. Up top there is a a removable adjustable shoulder strap. The exterior is very very well stitched, the materials used are great and it looks fantastic.

So what about the iPad, where does that go? Well I have left the best for last, the STM Jacket has a two zippers going from the bottom left to the top right which once undone allow you to place your iPad inside. The iPad is cushioned against soft touch orange polyester which doesn’t scratch or cause any harm to your iPad. The Jacket leaves enough space around the iPad so you can insert it with a skin on like the Case Mate Gelli. This is a huge plus.

The protection offered is quite substantial with the fantastic thick padding right around the case. So small drops and bumps when traveling aren’t a worry. The waterproof nylon means when it rains the drops will not soak through the material and instead just drops off the Jacket. The stitching and nylon also come together to create a superb build.

Overall the STM Jacket is a very well made, protective, stylish, easy to move around with and a purposeful product which I highly recommend to anyone on the go and traveling.

Not a Bag, Not a Case..It’s NimbusTote’s LandingPad for iPad

While the big name manufacturers are out remaking the same products with slight tweaks, NimbusTote has been busy cornering the market on originality. NimbusTote realizes the iPad can be clumsy to hold at some sitting or resting angles, and their latest crop of iPad stuff continues their trend of unique product design not found anywhere else. I wish I had more detailed pictures and angles to show you, but the website only offers the one view. However, it’s easy to see that you haven’t seen anything like the LandingPad before.
Part pillow, part organizer, part charging station, the LandingPad is a grippy, conforming companion to take with you whereever you plan on using your iPad. For me the immediate use would be in bed, when I find myself putting a pillow on my lap to get the iPad higher when reading. This faux suede and easily mushable-to-your-needs cushion is big enough for your iPad, phone or other small accessories. The “shark skin” neoprene provides the grippiness, so no need to worry about misfiring that bird.
There’s also a spot to hide and keep the AC cords for easy plug in anywhere. This one is yours for just $24.95. It’s the perfect iPad gift they didn’t even know they wanted.

Gimme. Now! Killspencer’s ‘Original Wax’ iPad Case

Look at that photo! You can almost sense that the case knows it’s good looking, so arrogant posing against the stark backdrop. Killspencer’s ‘Classic Original Wax’ iPad Case gets everything right from the outside in. There’s not just pockets on the outside, there’s the right pockets. Instead of one big catch-all they’ve done a pocket perfect for your iPhone, a thin one for your business or even credit cards if you so choose, and a larger one big enough for a small Moleskine or a planner. The waxed twill is military tough and water resistant and the reverse side sports a bullhide strap for easy carrying.
The inside is lined with coated black neoprene..I’m not sure what it’s coated with but you can be sure it’s soft as per usual. This main iPad pocket is smartly larger than it needs to be, meaning you don’t have to take off your protective iPad shell or flip case when putting it in. I wish more cases thought of this, most iPad users have (or should have!) an always-on plastic shell (I use the Speck Bat-wing).
If you must have this one from Killkenny, and you must, it’s available now for $150 direct from their site. Ho ho wooo!

Give a Sling a Shot! The Sling Pack by Incase Loves Your iPad

Allright, Incase isn’t exactly an underdog in the market, and their designs aren’t always the most unique – but this very simple and sleek Sling Pack gets it done. It’s not a tiny pack, but it’s tightly put together. You can actually fit a Macbook in here pretty easily, so it’s not limited to just iPads. The inside pockets are in various sizes for your iPod, notebooks, gum, etc – and they’re lined with a soft n’ pretty faux fur. Durable? You bet. Cheap? Not really, but not insane. $89 and they’re almost sold out. Tell Santa to hurry.

Hottest Holiday Cases: The Vaja Ivolution

Some of the best iPad cases out there for Christmas aren’t new, so they might not be fresh in your mind. So periodically in the next 10 days I’ll be doing a sort of year-end best-of reposts with the most gorgeous and in-demand cases we saw in 2010.

Originally posted May 15, 2010
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from Vaja, but, wow, they are beautifully back. This time they’re packing some of the most lavishly high-end leather iPad cases we’ve seen to date. They’re numerous, and they’re gorgeous, and ready to make you stand out from the Incase crowd. Nearly all of thier designs are hand-crafted – literally. Which means you need to wait for them to make it. There’s a modest turnaround time of +/- 35 days, so if you order one be prepared to wait while it’s meticulously crafted just for you. The price is justified by the incredible worksmanship they’re putting out as you can see in the high-res pictures. You won’t find better leather than what Vaja is using, it’s plush and supple like executive chair, just take a look at the Matalasse model, it looks more comfortable than my bed!

Vaja has 12 models in total each with different names such as the iVolution, Leather Agenda, and Top Crystal (featuring Swarovski crystals), which range in price from $100-$350 for the crystal encrusted number. It’s cool because they have models in all sorts of vibes…you have your sporty cases, business cases, some that fit young, some skewing older, some women’s styles, Vaja hit every demo, so props to marketing!
Also available is a STUNNING leather iPad messenger bag, but unfortunately it’s out of stock. We’ll be doing a full preview of that one soon.
These are pricy, but chances are if you could afford to be an early adopter of an iPad you won’t mind dropping a couple Benjy’s on a beautiful case for it. Three of the basic styles are available now with no wait, but remember there’s a 35 day turnaround time on the handcrafted models, so get those orders in now!

Creative, Weird, the TabGrip for iPad Captivates

That design just smacks you in the face doesn’t it? Fully original and incredibly functional, the new TabGrip has created it’s own niche by being completely inspired and different than anything we’ve seen yet. It’s part iPad stand..well, I suppose it’s mostly iPad stand, in that it’s meant to prop up and be there for you in all your hands-free iPadding. However the lightweight frame lends itself perfectly to doubling as an interesting “case”. It’s hard to call it a full blown case considering the edges are still exposed, but it does provide stellar gripping options that help you wield the somewhat weighty iPad a little easier.
It’s a snug fit and done in materials that are friendly to your glass, no scratchies!
I’m loving this thing. It’s odd, it gets the job done, and it’s won’t break the bank like those pricy aluminum stands. Available now in time for Christmas, $49.99 exclusively at Amazon.

Still Rockin’ After All These Months – The M-Edge Leather Jacket for iPad

It’s getting toward Christmas and we’re still in the midst of posting a year end round up bringing you the latest and greatest iPad stuff as well as the best stuff to hit in 2010. This was one of the sites most viewed posts of the year, the preview of the M-Edge leather jacket for iPad. M-Edge has put out some other great cases this year, but this one kind of remains their gold standard. Check out the classic post and tomorrow I’ll be showing you guys the latest from Scosche!

Cue the screaming! I have a feeling a whole lot of iPad fans are gonna swarm to this one, because you don’t need to be an executive to appreciate the very chic Executive Jacket by M-Edge. I actually previewed the entire M-Edge iPad line back in February in a 3 part post, so I was delighted to see not much changed since the initial prototype and final product. In fact, the only change I see is the elimination of some color options, and some new colors added.

Let’s start by looking at the feature it has that not many other cases do, and that’s the palm strap. This small, yet ingenius, addition allows you to keep a good hold of the iPad while iPadding standing up, doing a presentation, or just showing it off to your loser friends living vicariously through your iPad. At the very least it’s also a handle to carry it with if it’s not in a bag. The one in the top picture is the “smooth black” color option, which is not to be confused with the identical looking synthetic leather black jacket. Normally I’m not a fan of the cases that use the 4-corner strap method to hold the iPad in place because they’re usually pretty flimsy looking, but this one gets a pass because the straps are nicely, and stylishly, reenforced with leather. They are tight and stiff enough to make sure it stays put. Naturally, it props up nicely for media viewing. At this point, after all the iPad cases we’ve seen on this blog, I can’t imagine any manufacturer releasing a case without this feature.
Overall, the Leather Jacket is really dazzling. The leather is cushioned and rich looking and the gray inner lining is plush and elegant. It’s the iPad case equivalent of a four-star hotel. They’ve got an impressive array of colors available too including Smooth Black (top), Marbled Red, Jade Green, Pebbled Fuchsia, Pebbled Purple, and Smooth Mocha. Presumably you just choose your color choice during the checkout process.
Additionally, the Synthetic Executive Jacket is in two colors: Black and Marbled Red.
This, too, is among the best cases I’ve seen so far and deserving of a spot in my oh-so coveted Editor’s Choice section. Available now.
